5 Healthy Snacks (That Are Awesome For You!)

Let’s not beat around the bush here. Dieting is tough. It’s seriously tough! When you’re trying to lose weight, you might find it hard to stop overeating. One of the biggest sins that people don’t even realize they’re guilty of is snacking all of the time! If you’re always peckish in between meal times, here are some of the healthy snacks you should be eating.

1. Edamame Beans

If you like picking at things (who doesn’t?!), try grabbing some edamame beans and putting them in a bowl. You can eat these things on their own or even add a little chili oil to them to give them an extra blast of flavor. Either way, these beans won’t disappoint.

As if the flavor is not enough to get you hooked, there’s another reason to enjoy them. Some research suggests that the antioxidant kaempferol, which can be found in edamame beans, helps to promote weight loss in animals. That could mean that snacking on these tasty beans will help you to slim down and lose those extra pounds.

2. Dark Chocolate

Chocolate is bad for you, right? Well, the answer is not always. If you love the flavor of cocoa, you’ll be pleased to find out that dark chocolate isn’t as bad for you as you might imagine. In fact, this treat is packed full of antioxidants, which means that you get a whole load of benefits from it when you eat it.

One of the most interesting things about dark chocolate is the fact that it’s high in something called flavanols. These things can lower blood pressure and even reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease in the long run. What more could you want? When selecting a chocolate bar, make sure that you opt for one with 70% or more cocoa.

3. Mixed Nuts

One of the main reasons that people avoid eating nuts is because they think that they are fatty. While they are high in fats, you need to understand that these are the healthy types of fats. Nuts are low in saturated fat, which means that you shouldn’t feel guilty about having a few of them between meal times.

When you’re choosing your nuts, be sure to look at the benefits that each one offers you. Research has suggested that snacking on these things can help you lose weight. The reason is that they are extremely filling. So when you have a few, you won’t feel hungry for a long time after that. Win-win!

4. Homemade Popcorn

If you’re looking for a snack that ticks all the right boxes, you might just have found it. While, for a long time, any type of popcorn has been marketed as a ‘healthy snack,’ you need to be careful what you buy. Many of the leading brands have a load of additives and unhealthy toppings on them. For example, you might find that this treat is covered in caramel or loaded with salt!

There are few things in life as temptingly good as a fresh batch of homemade popcorn. Rather than opting for these snacks, you can make your own at home for next to nothing. Just get some corn kernels from your local health food store and pop them (literally!) in a pan. You can add the toppings that you want. Things like coconut oil or a little cinnamon should do the trick without being too unhealthy.

5. Hummus

While, of course, you shouldn’t eat hummus all day every day, having a little of this stuff as a snack might not be such a bad idea. It’s tasty and it provides you with a real protein punch too. The popular dip is healthier than you might expect. Usually made of tahini, chickpeas, and olive oil, the snack is low on saturated fat and a delicious side.

One of the best ways to enjoy this one is to have it with some thinly sliced vegetables. For example, you might want to try some cucumber or carrots. Since chickpeas are a great source of healthy plant-based protein, adding this side to your diet is a smart move. Be sure not to overindulge, but just enjoy this snack now and then when you’re feeling a little hungry.
